Influence of Mass Media on Nutritional Status of Youth

Description

Mass media (television, radio, magazines, newspaper, pamphlets, mobile phones, internet etc) play a paramount role in today's society. Mass media are the tools for the transfer of information, concepts, and ideas to both general and specific audiences. Sometimes media is playing a havoc with youth's health. Expenditure on food advertising is high and increasing in developing countries; a significant proportion of this advertising is for energy-dense processed foods targeted at children and youth. The objective of this advertising is to encourage greater consumption of processed foods which can lead to overweight and obesity, hence physical inactivity and poor health. This creates an endless cycle that perpetuates from generation to generation and needs to be checked well in time. Hence, on one hand, youth is exposed through media to high sugar, high fat, high sodium and low fibre junk foods and on the other hand, youth is also exposed to glamour world of fashion, where everyone wants to be ultra thin. The detrimental influence of media on food choices and eating habits of youth is a serious issue and growing concern for public health officials, registered dieticians, and families

This handsome collection contains scores of unique images based on folk art designs created by artists of Austria, Poland, Hungary, Russia, Switzerland, and other European countries. Baby Owl is back in this follow-up to the highly successful I'm Not Influence of Mass Media on Nutritional Status of Youth free epub Cute!and I'm Not Scared! Baby Owl is taking a Christmas Eve stroll though the woods with his sledge, when Baby Hare mistakes him for Santa. "I'm not Santa!" Baby Owl insists, and a comic Christmas tale unfolds. 'Absolutely hilarious' - Kirkus 'Made me laugh out loud ...a delight' - The Observer Freedom, Sen argues, is both the end and most efficient means of sustaining economic life and the key to securing the general welfare of the world's entire population. Releasing the idea of individual freedom from association with any particular historical, intellectual, political, or religious tradition, Sen clearly demonstrates its current applicability and possibilities. In the new global economy, where, despite unprecedented increases in overall opulence, the contemporary world denies elementary freedoms to vast numbers--perhaps even the majority of people--he concludes, it is still possible to practically and optimistically restain a sense of social accountability. Development as Freedom is essential reading."
